Yes. A Google Workspace user can have multiple email addresses by adding email aliases to their account.
An alias allows one user to receive emails sent to different addresses without creating additional user accounts.
Before adding additional addresses, review how user accounts work in Google Workspace.
What is an email alias?
An email alias is an additional email address that delivers messages to a user’s primary inbox.
For example:
- Primary address: john@yourdomain.com
- Alias: support@yourdomain.com
Emails sent to either address will arrive in the same mailbox.
Receiving vs sending behavior
Receiving emails
Once an alias is created, emails sent to that address are automatically delivered to the user’s primary inbox.
Sending emails
By default, users can only send emails from their primary address.
To send from an alias, you must configure Gmail to send email from an alias address.
Alias vs user vs group
It is important to understand the difference:
Email alias
- Delivers mail to one user
- Does not have its own inbox or login
- Does not require an additional license
User account
- Has its own inbox and login
- Requires a paid license
- Used when a separate mailbox is needed
Group (mailing list)
- Delivers mail to multiple users
- Used for teams or shared communication
If the address needs its own login or separate mailbox, you must create a separate user account instead.
Limits and licensing
- A user can have multiple aliases (within Google Workspace limits)
- Aliases do not require additional licenses
- Only administrators can add or manage aliases
To give a user another address, you can add an email alias to a user.
